Mayhill

Cybersafety

Internet safety is a very important part of the ICT curriculum at Mayhill. On Tuesday 13th March, we were pleased to welcome Simon Firth of 'Gripping Yarns', who presented a story called 'Never Touched Him' to Year 4, 5 and 6. This story explored the impact of bullying through electronic media - in chat rooms, social networking sites, text messages and using mobile phones and photographs.  It was an excellent production and prompted much discussion back in the classroom. Your child may wish to discuss this further with you at home. There is excellent advice for parents on this very current topic at   www.thinkuknow.co.uk .

Many thanks to Friends of Mayhill, who paid for Gripping Yarns to come to the school. We are very grateful to them for all their hard work, which helps us to provide the children with valuable experiences such as this.

Alpacas and goats can be hard to control! Stone Farm Blog

Thursday 22nd March

The bad news: it's raining. The good news: we're inside at the Aquarium all day!

Games in the barn were enjoyed by all last night as were the pancakes for breakfast! We have witnessed sharks, rays, an octopus and a turtle as well as jellyfish and fish galore. These have inspired us to create our own sea creatures with the aquarium's help this afternoon. Barn dance tonight...!

Wednesday 21st March

Another good night despite a false fire alarm at midnight! Everyone is clean and refreshed from showers after our dartmoor walk yesterday. Several chicks hatched and handled now, and the bunny which leapt into the stream yesterday has recovered well!

At Morwellham Quay today and we have already mined, undertaken slave labour and been to victorian school! The sun is shining (just about) and all is suspiciously calm!

Tuesday 20th March

Perfect day for walking on dartmoor - not hot nor wet nor windy! Another good night for all and we awoke to find eggs hatching - updates on that to follow. Baby rabbits had their first taste of the outdoors with us this morning too!

Monday 19th March

Great day today at Eden, some of us have even tried Baobab smoothies!! Weather is glorious so the biomes are hot. A good night's sleep was had last night, and only a goat and a pig have escaped so far! We are sketching owls tonight.

Sunday 18th March

Great journey down to Stone Farm and nice weather today. Everyone is safe and sound with first experience of the farm jobs under our belts. Lots of food eaten and we are looking forward to songs around the campfire later! Excitement levels are high!

Create your own cards, calendars and books

Parents can now use their own photos from their home computer to create books, calendars, cards etc. Click the link to download the Collective Schools Photobook software. It is simple to use - you just add pictures and text boxes to your card, calendar or booklet. You can then order copies of your creation. Mayhill receives a small contribution for each order, so you will also be helping school funds!

Tip: If you want to change the size of a text font, either set the font before typing the text; or highlight the text and then set the font.
