Can you calculate the remainder?
Multiplication and division just got interesting!
As we continue our journey through multiplication and division, we have started to explore the concept of remainders. As ever in maths, it is important to use concrete resources when beginning to understand new concepts, and these lessons have been no different. The children worked in pairs with straws to create squares and discovered that if a number wasn't in the four times table, they will have some straws left over. They have made fluent links between their times table facts and calculating remainders, so please continue to learn your times tables at home, and if you fancy giving them a challenge, perhaps give them a tricky question which involves calculating a remainder!
