World Book Day
On Thursday 2nd March we celebrated World Book Day at Mayhill.
Everyone at Mayhill had a blast, celebrating reading and great books during World Book Day. First of all we had an assembly, where Mr Barry talked us through his journey as a reader after Supertato and Evil Pea had stolen the show with their antics! Then we went back to our classes to share our favourite books with our classmates. After break, we all took part in the Live World Book Day lesson, where Michael Rosen showed us how we can add our very own twist to stories we know, in order to create new characters and adventures. During the afternoon, each class spent more time discussing their favourite books and at the end of the day, the children got to visit a different part of the school in small groups, where they met a member of staff who shared their favourite children's book with them. Finally, FOMs had organised a 'book swap' sale, which many of our children had donated to. It was almost as popular as the doughnuts!
We hope the children enjoyed celebrating books with us, and went home with lots of ideas of what to read next.
Although World Book Day is over for another year, you can explore the fantastic range of resources available on the World Book Day website at any time. Just head to www.worldbookday.com where you can listen to audiobooks, find a range of exciting crafts and activities and watch videos of popular children's authors reading their books.
Thank you for all of your support, and for the effort that went into the fabulous costumes.
Keeeeeeeeeeeeep reading 🙂
