School Council Update

It's been a busy term and a half for Mayhill's School Council!

We can't believe we are halfway through our year as School Councillors - we wanted to take time to reflect on what we have achieved so far.

Last term we decided we wanted to make a difference by recycling, so we chose to collect plastic in school. We collected together enough plastic bottles to make and decorate a Christmas tree! (See related blog post.)

Later on we started to research voting, laws and democracy, just in time for our trip to the Houses of Parliament towards the start of the Spring term. (See pics in gallery and write up in 5/2/19 Newsletter.) We enjoyed our trip to the capital very much so and we all learnt a lot about what goes on in the House of Lords and the House of Commons.

In addition, we have being reviewing our outdoor play equipment. As School Councillors we have been asking our classes what they would like to see outside at playtime, then with the pupil voice in mind we have fed this back in meetings. Watch this space!

Recently we have been lucky enough to take part in some 'Street Food' tasting. We were trialling a new menu that the children will have on offer in addition to their veg and meat options, we were very impressed! New foods that will be on offer include yummy beef fajitas and a jumbo fish finger meal! We have fed back our thoughts to our classes.

As Spring 2 approaches, we have many ideas coming up for things we want to review. We are busy creating a 'British Values' display board for the main corridor at the moment, we will post updates soon!
