Matthew Henson Biography writing
Year 6 are currently working on writing biographies of the famed explorer Matthew Henson who wasn't recognised for his achievements due to his skin colour. The children were outraged by the clear racism experienced by this amazing man and they are determined his story is retold to others to ensure this kind of discrimination does not happen again.
The children have studied biographies from previous year 6 children and have identified the need to interest and inspire their readers. Having understood the clear purpose of the writing they are about to embark on, the children are making notes and a chronological timeline that will allow them to create their own biographies about this resilient explorer.
the children are also working on using simple, complex and compound sentences this term and are using a range of conjunctions to do so.
