Supporting your child in English

English forms an important part of our Curriculum at Mayhill.  Children partake in reading, writing, spelling and handwriting lessons every week.  The following links will help your child to practise key skills, which underpin the English Curriculum.

Here are some top tips to develop your child’s reading and writing skills at home.

How can I help my child learn their tables

Times Tables Rock Stars - At Mayhill we use Times Tables Rock Stars as a fun, engaging and educational way of working on times tables at home. We aim for all children to fluently recall their times tables up to 12 x 12 by the end of year 4.  Every child in the school has a personal username and password and can win coins by playing on games that improve their times tables fluency.  The children have their own Avatars and these can be clothed and accessorised with the use of the coins they have won through the games.  We encourage the children to use this as often as possible and offer them the opportunity to download the app from the app store too.

'Oxford Owl Maths - Including an online maths dictionary

The Oxford University Press have developed this site to support parents in helping their children with mathematics.  You'll find lots of advice, support, games and fun activities showing how best to help your child develop their mathematical skills to enable them to become maths wizards!  There's also information on what some of the technical 'jargon' means.

In addition why not have a look at some of the other sections this invaluable website offers for learning times tables and spellings too.
